Why We Love Christmas: A List of Our Favorite Holiday Traditions

Keyword(s): holiday traditions

Approximately 46 percent of United States citizens claim Christmas is their favorite holiday.

And, it's not hard to figure out why!

The Christmas season marks the time for hot cocoa, helping those in need, and getting gifts for those most important to you.

But, those aren't the only holiday traditions we're a fan of.

Let's take a look at what the guys here at Deck The Hallmark love most about the most wonderful time of the year.

Watching Christmas Movies

This is one of our absolute favorite things about the Christmas season.

There are plenty of classics to choose from, but some of our favorites include Home Alone, Elf, A Charlie Brown Christmas, and (of course) A Christmas Story.

These are especially fun to watch with a mug full of hot chocolate and a pair of warm socks. But, these films can fit into the holiday however you'd like. Some of us sit down to watch them, while others have them on in the background for the nostalgia. Whether you're reliving your childhood or helping kids feel the joy of the movies you love are a great way to get in the mood.

No matter how you choose to do it, though, it isn't Christmas if you don't watch at least one them!

Ugly Sweaters

There's something magical about going on the hunt for the most hideous sweater you can find so that you can have the ugliest outfit in the room.

Maybe it's a visually-repulsive mush of red and green. Maybe there's an awful stitched pattern that not even your grandma would wear.

Regardless of what you choose, it works as long as you'd never be caught wearing it any other time of year!

Out of all the holiday traditions, we think this one's the most fun. Whether you have a low-key night with the family or attend an ugly sweater party, these sweaters are sure to keep you laughing all night at their ridiculousness.

Christmas Light Adventures

This one's particularly fun for those with children or when younger family members come to visit.

In true Christmas spirit, there are millions of people all over the country who set out each year to make their house look as festive as possible with their Christmas light decorations.

As Christmas Eve approaches, you'll find more and more opportunity to get in the car and go for a night drive and see the best your city has to offer.

Many cities also decorate their downtown areas and hold holiday events that include plenty of Christmas lights, so keep an eye out for those, as well.

Setting Up A Christmas Tree

If you could only choose one tradition to take part in, it has to be this one.

Setting up a Christmas tree is the best way to celebrate the season. But, you don't have to drag a 7-foot pine tree into your living room.

You could get a synthetic tree or even a two-foot tree that takes up hardly any space at all. Ornaments are optional, but they're always a nice way to decorate it.

At the very least, a Christmas tree designates a place to put your wrapped presents until Christmas morning, but it's a nice addition to any home.

Holiday Traditions Don't Stop Here

There are plenty of other holiday traditions to take part in, but these are some we cherish the most.

With this list in mind, you'll be well on your way to having an unforgettable Christmas season in 2018.
